Getting started

If you are new to insight (vipassana) meditation please see the guided meditations provided on our Audio page.

You may also enjoy the Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation course offered by Gil Fronsdal from the Insight Meditation Centre in Redwood City. Here you will find instructions for walking meditation and guided metta (benevolence practice).

As there are no meditation instructions at our Sunday evening group practice it is suggested that you take the time to become familiar with at least the first and second audio on the guided practice page.

We meet at the Sakyamuni Buddhist Centre in Lyneham. Information about what to expect on the night can be found here, as well as directions to our meeting place.

We welcome new members and hope you can join us!

An overview of the basics

Please visit our Q&A page where you will find answers to some of the questions you may have, including information about the tradition in which we practise.

Finding a teacher

If you are interested in furthering your practice it is helpful to seek guidance from a teacher. One of the best ways to do this is to attend a meditation retreat. Most retreats are suitable for beginners with retreat schedules usually involving alternate sitting and walking periods, practice instructions, Dhamma talks and personal practice discussions with a teacher. You won't need to sit for long periods of time. Retreats vary in length – from one weekend, to one or two weeks or longer. There are also many online options available.

Our links and resources page provides information about organisations and teachers that offer retreat opportunities in Australia.
